Louisiana Medical Marijuana Dispensary SEO and Marketing
In a 30-Location Louisiana Market, Patients Should Find Your Dispensary Without Guessing
If you hold one of Louisiana's ten medical marijuana retail permits, you're in a market capped at thirty locations, and your patients still have to pick the right site. The state allows no more than ten retail permits and thirty locations in total. The Department of Health lists 29 base and satellite sites under those ten permits, although we haven't confirmed that every location is currently open. Two producers, Good Day Farm and Ilera, supply all of them. In 2024 the Board of Pharmacy counted 120,092 unique patients filling recommendations.
With so few locations, I'd check whether each of your sites appears for nearby searches and whether its hours, menu and location details are accurate. ColaDigital helps with your Google Business Profiles and Maps, the hours and menus patients see for each base and satellite site, what AI assistants say about you, and advertising planned with your counsel, since the rules on dispensary advertising changed in 2023.
"After roughly 5 months of working with ColaDigital, we can confidently say that we made the right choice and we have seen more traffic to the site and more leads coming in." Don Henke, Sales Manager, MMI Agriculture

What Louisiana's Rules Say About Dispensary Advertising
For years, Louisiana's marijuana pharmacies worked under a Board of Pharmacy rule titled "Advertising." The Board repealed it in October 2023, citing 2022 legislation and "an effort to reduce the number of regulations." When retail oversight passed to the Department of Health on January 1, 2025, the Department's new rule didn't replace it. We searched the January 2026 final rule and the program statute for advertising, marketing, promotion and discount language and found none.
Don't take that as "anything goes," for three reasons. Louisiana's general pharmacy rule bars false, fraudulent, deceptive or misleading advertising, and your permit requires a designated pharmacist, so whether that rule reaches your dispensary is a question for your attorney. General consumer-protection law still applies to you. And Google and Meta run their own cannabis ad policies, which apply to your ads on top of any state rule.
At least one guide still describes the repealed ban as current and names the wrong regulator. If you've been holding back on search and local marketing because of an old rule, it's worth a fresh conversation with counsel about what you can do now.

Louisiana's Medical Marijuana Market
The Board of Pharmacy's prescription monitoring data counted 2,459,111 therapeutic marijuana prescriptions and 120,092 unique patients in 2024, with 1,124 prescribers. Quarterly patients rose from 43,932 in early 2023 to 84,120 in the last quarter of 2024. Those transactions stopped being reported to the monitoring program on January 1, 2025, and we haven't found an official patient count since.
Production grew fast. Good Day Farm reported about 24,733 pounds of flower sold or distributed in 2025, up from about 10,368 pounds in 2024, along with about 2.8 million product units. Ilera reported about 4,500 pounds and 452,073 units for 2025. Neither Department report gives dollar sales, so be wary of any revenue figure you see quoted for the state.
Louisiana has two licensed producers, so I'd look at what nearby dispensaries actually list on their menus before deciding how yours should stand apart. Location, hours, service and the pharmacist relationship are details your patients compare too, and I'd make sure each one is clear wherever you appear.
Is Recreational Marijuana Legal in Louisiana?
No. Louisiana is medical only. A 2026 bill for an adult-use pilot at existing medical dispensaries like yours never left the House Health and Welfare Committee, and a resolution for a recreational cannabis task force was involuntarily deferred in May 2026. A separate 2026 law raised penalties for marijuana use near schools from August 1, 2026.
Louisiana Dispensaries by Region
The Department lists each permit holder's base city and satellites. Here's the footprint you're working in as of October 2026.
| Region | Base and satellite cities | What we'd look at |
|---|---|---|
| Region 1, New Orleans area | New Orleans and Kenner (two permits); satellites in Metairie, Harvey and two in New Orleans | The only region with two permit holders, whose sites share the same metro searches |
| Region 2, Baton Rouge | Baton Rouge; satellites in Baton Rouge and Prairieville | Capital-area patients choosing between three sites under one permit, which each need their own listing from you |
| Region 3, Houma and Morgan City | Morgan City; satellite in Houma | Two sites serving a long stretch of the coast |
| Region 4, Acadiana | Lafayette; satellites in Opelousas and New Iberia | Separate town searches around Lafayette |
| Region 5, Southwest | Lake Charles; satellites in Jennings and Sulphur | Patients near the Texas line searching from several small cities |
| Region 6, Central | Pineville; satellites in Mansura and Leesville | Wide rural drive times, so your hours and directions come first |
| Region 7, Northwest | Bossier City; satellites in Shreveport and Natchitoches | Shreveport and Bossier searches that overlap across the river |
| Region 8, Northeast | Monroe; satellites in West Monroe and Ruston | A college town plus the twin cities, each with a distinct patient base |
| Region 9, Northshore | Covington; satellites in Slidell and Hammond | Northshore commuters who may also see New Orleans results |
Source: the Department's medical marijuana page, retail permit and satellite table, read October 23, 2026 (10 permits, 19 satellites listed under a maximum of 20). Opening status of each satellite wasn't verified.

Results From Our Medical and Dispensary Clients
We don't have a Louisiana client yet. The results below come from documented work for a medical practice in Texas and for dispensaries we've helped in Texas and Ontario, each dated. Consider them evidence of approach; a Louisiana outcome would turn on your region and the other permit holders around you.
"Vee provides awesome SEO work!"
Phon Malone, Hello High, a South Jersey dispensary"Worked with Vee for almost two years and found him extremely accessible and always available. He took the time to explain not only what was being done, but why."
Alex Salaman, LabstatSince Louisiana's program is medical only, Texas 420 Doctors is the nearest comparison in our case studies. That clinic evaluates patients for medical cannabis over telehealth, and four months of ColaDigital-run campaigns on Google and Meta generated its 1,580 leads (the first two tiles), none disapproved. In August 2026 it relaunched its website; a developer did the coding and ColaDigital ran the SEO through the changeover. In Louisiana, recommendations come from clinicians rather than dispensaries, so your version of that work would focus on patients who already have a recommendation and need a place to fill it.

Getting AI Answers Right for a Louisiana Dispensary
Louisiana's own vocabulary has shifted. Its dispensaries were called "marijuana pharmacies" under the Board of Pharmacy and are "retailers" under the Department, while most of your patients just say dispensary. An AI assistant asked where to buy medical marijuana in Lafayette may mix those terms, list a producer's brand as if it were a dispensary, or repeat old hours from a directory.
I'd ask a couple of assistants about your sites by name and note what comes back. Then we make your website and every listing we're able to update say the same thing about each location, its hours and its pharmacist availability, so Google picks up those same details correctly. Which dispensary an assistant suggests is up to the assistant; making sure your own details are right is the part we can do.
How We Work With a Louisiana Dispensary
Clean Up Every Site's Listings First
We audit your Business Profiles for each base and satellite site, fix names, hours and categories, and line up your website so each location has accurate details of its own.
Build Search Around Each Region and Satellite
Your patients in Houma, Ruston or Slidell should reach the closest site's hours, menu and directions in a single search, not after sorting through a whole permit holder's network.
Add Paid Media Only After Your Counsel Signs Off
If paid campaigns make sense, they'll start once your attorney's comfortable with the approach, and you'll get a monthly breakdown of Maps views, web visits and direction requests, site by site.
Louisiana Cannabis Marketing Pricing (USD)
Your Louisiana program costs $2,000 monthly at the low end. With several satellites, or paid campaigns going year-round, you may go beyond $10,000. The fee follows how many sites you have, the competition in your region and how much your listings need fixing first. We send invoices in USD to American clients and CAD to Canadian ones, and media spend isn't part of our fee.
Louisiana: $2,000 monthly and up
Multi-site permit holders past $10,000 · Billing in USD (CAD for Canadians) · Media spend kept apart
