Seattle Dispensary Marketing
A Seattle Dispensary Answers to Both the City and the State
To sell cannabis in Seattle you need three licenses: one from the state Liquor and Cannabis Board, a city business license tax certificate and a city cannabis regulatory license. The city's license has to be renewed by June 30 each year, and city inspectors can visit during business hours, alongside the state's.
The state's retailer list from October 21, 2026 shows 50 active retailers with a Seattle address, and 31 of them hold a medical endorsement. My work with Seattle dispensaries and cannabis brands covers how they appear in Google's results, on its map and in AI answers, beginning with a search from the sidewalk outside. ColaDigital is remote and has no Seattle office.

Where Seattle Lets a Cannabis Retailer Open
| Nearby use | Minimum distance |
|---|---|
| Elementary and secondary schools, playgrounds | 1,000 feet |
| Child care centers, game arcades, libraries, public parks, public transit centers, recreation centers | 500 feet, or 250 feet in the DMC and DMR downtown zones north of Yesler Way |
| Other licensed cannabis retail | No more than two retail cannabis uses within 1,000 feet of each other |
From the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections cannabis code summary, read October 28, 2026; distances run property line to property line. The full city code wouldn't open for us, so verify it for your specific site.
The state also has no open window for new retailer applications outside its social equity program. Between that and the two-within-1,000-feet rule, a brand-new neighbor is limited, but not ruled out: a social equity licensee could still open nearby. It's worth rechecking the map around your address from time to time.
Your Signs: Seattle's Sign Code and the State's Ad Buffer
Washington leaves the size of your trade name sign to the city, and Seattle's sign code sets sizes by zone, with extra limits in special review districts like Pioneer Square and the Chinatown International District. So the sign that's fine on one block may be too large on another.
There's also a question specific to Seattle. The state's 1,000-foot ad buffer around places like parks and libraries gives way where a city has reduced its siting distances by ordinance, and Seattle has cut some of those distances to 500 or 250 feet. If your dispensary legally sits less than 1,000 feet from a park or library, how the buffer applies to signs on your own building is worth confirming with your lawyer. That's our reading of how the two rules meet, not settled guidance.
Washington's July 2026 changes allowed more signs and brought coupons back, and our Washington page covers them. I haven't confirmed whether Seattle's own written rules have caught up, so check both before changing your storefront.

No Delivery and No Online Sales in Seattle
State rules are direct on this: "Internet sales and delivery of product to customers is prohibited." That prohibition applies to licensed Seattle retailers under the Washington rule I checked. So nothing on your website, listing or ads should suggest you deliver or sell online. If you hold products for customers or take orders ahead, check with the state how you're allowed to describe that before promoting it.
Medical Patients in Seattle
Of the 50 active retailers with a Seattle address, 31 hold a medical endorsement, about 62%, compared with roughly 58% statewide by our rough arithmetic. If yours is one of them, I'd check that patients can find your medical endorsement, product information and hours on your website and listing, since the endorsement is what lets a retailer serve patients under the state's medical rules.
Hours, Security and What You Show Online
Washington permits sales between 8 a.m. and midnight, and Seattle doesn't appear to set its own. Keep the hours on your listing exact, holidays included.
Seattle news outlets have reported repeated break-ins at cannabis retailers since 2024, and Hoodline, citing MJBizDaily, reported Seattle-area operators spending up to $350,000 a year on security. I wouldn't post photos of stock rooms or cash areas online; storefront and sales floor photos do the job for shoppers.
Seattle and King County drew 39.7 million visitors in 2025, according to Visit Seattle, and KOMO reported Canadian visits down 36%. I couldn't find evidence connecting those visitor totals to cannabis sales. Washington also restricts advertising aimed at people outside the state, so I'd check what a visitor searching near your dispensary can actually find on Google and your website.
Proof From Dallas and Ontario Dispensaries
None of our published case studies comes from Washington. The three results here, from Dallas and Ontario dispensaries, are dated and describe past work, not a Seattle forecast.

Phon Malone, Hello High, a South Jersey dispensaryA single Seattle dispensary trying to rank on the map near its address is closest to the Dallas example. Washington caps one owner at five retail licenses, and for a group working under that cap, the Ontario chain shows how each location can be measured against its own neighbors.

Getting AI Answers Right About Your Seattle Dispensary
Ask an AI assistant about cannabis in Ballard or Capitol Hill and its answer may draw on your site, your listing on Google or directory pages. If any of those still hint at delivery, list old hours or skip your medical endorsement, the answer goes wrong with them. We structure your site for AI tools to read, correct the details we manage and request fixes from the platforms we don't. An assistant may or may not name you; accurate inputs are the part I can deliver.

Seattle Dispensary SEO Costs (USD)
Seattle plans start at $2,000 per month. Adding several locations, paid media or significant site work can push a plan past $10,000. A number comes after I've looked at your website, licenses, locations and nearby competition. Platforms bill ad spend, not us, and notice of 30 days lets either side stop. Canadian clients receive quotes in CAD; fees by service are on the pricing page.
